∞ Course Descriptions ∞
Zen Shiatsu I - Beginnings
The simple practical procedures taught in Zen Shiatsu 1 encompass the whole body and consequently, the whole person. Even within the first few weeks a student is able to deliver a treatment with profound benefits for the recipient. Using fingers, knuckles, thumbs, hands, elbows, and even knees and feet, students learn to feel and release the flow of Ki (chi, prana or life force) throughout the body, which allows a deep healing process to take place.

Meridian Therapy
The 12 major meridians and their effects on the structure, function and behaviour of a person are taught through direct 'feel' and experience of opening and stimulating each Meridian through specific yogic asanas. Meridian knowledge is shown to be useful and essential for a number of therapies and disciplines as well as Shiatsu - Yoga, Acupuncture, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Massage, etc.

Oriental Medical Philosophy
The rift between Eastern and Western medicine is demystified. Their strengths and weaknesses are revealed. Their usefulness debated.
At the foundation of the Zen Shiatsu Course is a way of thinking that is markedly different from the Western approach to modern medicine: Oriental medical philosophy looks at the energetics of health as opposed to - and complementary to - the structures and quantifying of the Western orthodoxy. The East tends towards a more homśopathic strategy of enlisting the body's reserves while the West declares war on the alien germ - the monster within and without!

Food as Medicine I
The Course covers some remarkably simple and effective dietary approaches to reveal the medicinal qualities of 'Food' and the tasty qualities of 'medicine'. Your 'Five Taste Senses' are your guide to the delicious and nourishing wholefood recipes and balanced diets that can be used to prevent and remedy many forms of illness and degeneration.
Food as Medicine is of interest both to the health professional who wishes to use the specific healing properties of food to complement their own practice and to those people who have a personal interest in eating tasty and health-giving meals.

Ki Healing Yoga I
Yoga correctives were developed by the Japanese Master, Masahiro Oki who combined the Hatha Yoga system with the Meridian-based medicines of China and Japan. Through this synthesis he achieved a remarkably precise method of diagnosis and a very specific application of the traditional asanas (postures and stretches) to release and strengthen.
Students learn how to apply specific asanas that will relieve congestion in the energy patterns of the body and strengthen their functioning potential.

Anatomy & Physiology I
The structures and systems of the human body are taught according to 'Western' Anatomy and Physiology and related on a practical basis to the corresponding Oriental model. It is essential learning for anyone - especially a practitioner in Oriental medicine - who wishes to bridge the gap of understanding between the Eastern and Western models. The course is taught by a Medical Practitioner, also trained in Zen Shiatsu.

∞ The Advanced Techniques ∞
Zen Shiatsu II - Diagnosis
Prerequisites: Meridian Therapy, Zen 1
As students progress they learn greater proficiency and more refined techniques. They are taught how to diagnose the deep, energetic cause of an illness and how to deal with it effectively. Precise diagnosis through touch - the hara - and observation - body and facial analysis - go way beyond mere symptomatic assessment.
Top
Zen Shiatsu III - Advanced Techniques
Prerequisites: Meridian Therapy, Zen 1, Zen 2
Advanced techniques are taught that lift directly into the hara and use stretches to release structural imbalances. Lower and upper back releases are also learnt, together with relief from other specific ailments and symptoms - hip imbalances, shoulder, elbow, wrist dysfunctions, sprains, strains and RSI conditions.
The diagnosis and treatment of emotional conditions are also taught.
Top
Zen Shiatsu IV - Advanced Diagnosis
Prerequisites: Meridian Therapy, Zen 1, Zen 2, Zen 3
More advanced diagnoses and treatments address the pulse and auric levels of the patient. Students learn how to treat a patient's condition in relation to their psyche - that is, the way the patient sees themselves and responds to the world around them - without intruding into the details and drama of personal lives.
This is the completion school. Chronic and difficult cases are explored and an 'open clinic' is used for tuition.

Anatomy & Physiology II - Advanced
Prerequisites: A & P I
This second part of the anatomy & physiology course goes beyond the structures and systems of the body to explore the diseases that attack, distort and inhibit their function - "pathology", the science of 'disease'. The notion of 'disease' is discussed again from a Western and an Eastern perspective. Who is in power? The germ? Or us?
Top
Ki Healing Yoga II - Advanced
Prerequisites: Meridian Therapy, Ki Healing Yoga I
This advanced course teaches how to diagnose a person's condition at the structural, functional and psychological levels, and takes the Ki Healing yoga skills to greater precision. There is more interactive work dealing with symptomatic disorders and analyses, addressing their deeper cause and their release.
Top
Tsubo/Moxa Point Therapy I - Advanced
Prerequisites: Meridian Therapy
There are as many major Tsubos or energy points around the body as days in the year and each of them governs a specific aspect of our health and living. Their meaning and usefulness is taught together with the effect of Moxibustion (a heating substance).
Top
Guiding Principles of Ki Yoga I - a philosophy & practice
Prerequisites: A background in yoga
Ki Yoga is a whole science that allows you to explore your Self and the world. It is a healing therapy, turning your strengths and weaknesses into 'guiding principles'.
Ki yoga offers a Way to understanding your Way in the world.
The course looks at the integrity of Ki Yoga and what it means in your life.
